The Story House Film Institute in Missoula, the nonprofit educational arm of Story House, Inc., is proud to offer a unique scholarship opportunity awarding 6 academic credits through a hands-on paid internship on the feature film St. George

A stipend at the end of the project will be $1250 for students who complete all the required hours and training.

This immersive experience places students, alumni, and returning professionals directly on a working film set—equipping them with real-world skills, industry connections, and college credit toward their academic and career goals.

🎓 Start with Industry-Recognized Training

Before stepping on set, all interns will complete a required 10-hour Production Assistant (PA) Training Course through the Media Training Center at Missoula College.

This course provides essential skills and safety knowledge for working on a film set, covering:

  •  Set etiquette and professional protocols  
  •  Walkie talkie communication  
  •  Department roles and terminology  
  •  On-set safety procedures  
  •  Script breakdowns and call sheets  
  •  Resume building and job-readiness tools  

Upon completion, participants are certified as Production Assistants—prepared to contribute meaningfully on set and step confidently into their internship roles.

📚 About the Program

This internship is offered through the Institute’s flagship training programs:

In partnership with the University of Montana, Missoula College, and Media Training Center, these programs combine classroom learning with real-world experience to prepare participants for in-demand roles in:

  •  Sound & Post-Production
     
  •  Media Manufacturing & Technical Trades
     

📘 Course Overview:

This 6-credit immersive course is designed to equip students with essential skills for working on professional film sets through online coursework and a 10-week internship on the feature film St. George. The program blends academic training with hands-on experience to prepare participants for careers in the film industry.

    • PA Certification Course
          Online | Self-paced | 10–12 hours
      Fee: $150 (Book & Access Fee)

    • Internship Placement: St. George Film Set (Missoula, MT)
          8 hours/day for 40 hours/week on-set shadowing experience over 4 weeks
          Students select and are assigned days based on production needs.

Course Description: Media Training Center, with support from Rocky Mountain Rigging, is excited to announce an Introduction to Stagehands in-person course.  Montana needs over 200 trained stagehands this year to support our growing music scene. This course equips learners with the foundational skills and practical knowledge needed to thrive as a stagehand.  Normally, $300 but $100 until Nov. 1

Get trained, get in the database, and get employed.

 The courses offered over the weekend are: 

  1. A focused Introduction to Stagehand course with an emphasis on training will focus on everything from safety protocols and crew communication to technical equipment handling and stage setup.
  2. This course is an online, self-paced course that takes on average 5 hours to complete
  3. Cost: $100 (normally $300) 


Upon completion, students earn a digital badge and are granted access to an exclusive online database of Montana stagehands, simplifying the path to employment.

The courses offered over the weekend are:

  1. A focused Introduction to Production course with an emphasis on training to become a Production Assistant. This PA course will focus on film lingo, equipment names, paperwork, and walkie-talkie protocol.
